Today’s Comic Purchases: 6/1/2011
Hello ladies and gents! Here’s my picks for this week’s comics. I picked up:

- Secret Six #34 (DC, Gail Simone)
- Avengers Academy #14.1 (Marvel, Christos Gage)
- Fear Itself #3 (Marvel, Matt Fraction)
- Amazing Spider-Man #663 (Marvel, Dan Slott)
Good haul this week; I don’t really like Marvel’s “.1” series of issues, but I picked up Avengers Academy for completion’s sake, and because I’m really liking this series. Fear Itself surprised me with some twists, but Secret Six was definitely this week’s pick. Check it out!

“Tommy Jepperd — A violent, hulking drifter who takes in Gus and promises to lead him to “The Preserve” (a fabled safe-haven for hybrid children). The character was based on an aged Frank Castle(Marvel’s “The Punisher”). ”Corben’s aging gray-haired Frank is an unstoppable force of nature and amazing to behold. This character design ended up being a huge influence on the design of Jepperd, the big bad ass in Sweet Tooth.”
Been reading the lovely series Sweet Tooth by Jeff Lemire lately, and I’m surprised by how much I like it. I sometimes have this irrational tendency to drag my heels on reading things that are critically-acclaimed. Maybe I’m scared I won’t like it myself, and then feel like my tastes suck.
